International Center of Photography   (ICP) Project  — 2019

Artist Statement
Certain people attribute more value to their memories while others treasure tangible objects. In this project, I explored these sentiments by asking my subjects the following questions:

• Where did your best or worst memory occur?
• What object can't you live without?

With these prompts, I followed my subjects to their desired location and started shooting.

As I was learning analog photography, I realized that I wanted to further explore portraiture, specifically candid portraits. This project presented the perfect opportunity to do so. I allowed my subjects to truly revel In the memories that arose in the physical space they chose, and proceeded to capture the expressions on their faces. In addition to grounding my images in a nostalgic physical space, my subjects brought one physical item that was important to them. With these images, I wanted to divert my and the viewers attention way from the subject and instead focus on the symbolic power of my subject's memory and experience through an object. Overall, I wanted these images to best reflect the raw emotion they felt about the memory or object through immersion.
